The Red Room

This is a piece inspired by the novel Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. Hope you like it :)

As they lock the door I drown in deep red,
My heart is pounding with dread.
I am to be punished,
That is what they said.
When all I did was hide away,
Hoping for a better day.
Ghosts crawl out from under the bed, I scream.
For I am certain it is not a dream.
Uncle Reed's voice echoes loud,
I miss the way he used to sound.
But he is now a demon from hell,
A place that is far from swell.
"Say your prayers Miss Erye," is what nurse said to me.
Though now I fear that God has let me be.
I am falling out of consciousness,
Maybe now I will feel his closeness.
I would never wish anyone this doom,
For I will never forget the time I spent in The Red Room.
